The beloved and beautiful soul of Ernestine Barnett was born on May 27, 1947, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, New Jersey. She departed this life unexpectedly on May 24, 2022, at the age of 74, just threedays before her 75th birthday. Ernestine was predeceased by her loving husband, David “Smoke” Barnett, her parents; Floyd Lodge, Sr.and Mattie B. Lodge who resided in Red Bank, NJ.
Ernestine graduated Red Bank High School, Class of 1965. Following Graduation, Ernie moved to Newark, NJ where she met and married David Barnett Sr., while working at Regional Automotive Warehouse, she continued her career there for 42 years. She loved her job and was proud of her many accomplishments. She spoke often of how much she enjoyed working with everyone and how they were like a family.
Ernestine loved going to Atlantic City and traveling when she can. She loved music and having a good time anytime she could. She was a huge Smokey Robinson fan, whom she seen in concert several times. Ernestine was known as The Avon lady and loved cats. She was known for her fashion and always had something with an animal print in her style.
Ernestine leaves behind her son, David E. Barnett Chen, which was her pride and joy, her loving daughter-in-law, Jasmine Chen, a grand-daughter, Kai Martin Chen and another grand-daughter (Jade-Brielle Ernestine Chen), on the way. In addition to her parents, Ernestine was pre-deceased by her brothers, Leroy Cooper, Wilson Lodge, Floyd Lodge and sisters Juanita Johnson & Wiley Lodge. Leaving to cherish her memory are three sisters: Luticia Harvis of Tinton Falls, NJ, Elizabeth Ligon of Eatontown, NJ, and Pamela Watson of Neptune, NJ. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
