Willie Reeves

Reeves, Willie died at his residence on January 7, 2012. Willie was the son of the late Carrie Henderson Reeves and Harry Reeves, and was born on May 22,1918 in Branchville, South Carolina. He was educated in the Branchville Public Schools.

 

He was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Laura Fishman on October 7, 1939 and was her devoted and loving husband for sixty five years. This union was blessed with eight children.

 

In ,1950, he, his wife and children migrated to New Jersey seeking a better life for their family. They eventually settled in Bristol, Pennsylvania where they remained for more than 40 years. They always made their home available for relatives and friends moving north.

 

Willie was a hard worker. He was a chef at the Croydon Diner for more than 30 years. He also worked at the Hun School and the Yardley Inn in Yardley, Pennsylvania.

 

He was a faithful member of Trenton Tabernacle Fire Baptized Holiness Church, Trenton, New Jersey until he returned to St. George, South Carolina in 1979, where he joined Bowman Temple COGIC. There he served diligently as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. Failing health brought him back to New Jersey. Although he was unable attend church physically, Pastor Vernard Leak and Reverend Dr. Deborah Brooks frequently visited him and provided spiritual sacraments' and guidance.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife Laura; Six brothers Paul, Daniel, Ezekiel, Abraham, Henry, and Harry Reeves; Seven Sisters Henrietta Green, Pearl Jenkins, Ruth Reeves, Lula Murray, Jane Reeves, Rosalee Matthews, and Lottie Fisherman; two sons Raymond and Jeremiah; one daughter Laura Williams.

 

He leave to cherish his fond and happy memories three sisters Eva Garvin, New Haven, Connecticut; Elizabeth Sims, Titusville, Fla. Frances Stevens, St. George S.C., two sons Willie Reeves Jr. (Hattie), Branchville, S.C; Eugene Reeves (Alyn), Schull, Ireland; three daughters Frances Smith, Willingboro, NJ; Betty Simmons (Edward) Gary Indiana; Georgiann Ross, Conway Georgia; 33 Grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren. A host of family and friends.

 

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday (1-12-12)11AM at Mt. Pisgah AME Church 170 Witherspoon Street, Princeton. Interment Ewing Cemetery, Ewing. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9 – 11AM. Services entrusted to Ledford Funeral Home 929 S. Clinton Avenue, Trenton.
