Ballard, Henry B. (Hank), age 70 of Hillside, NJ, died suddenly on May 2nd. Born in New York City, NY, raised in Newark, NJ, a 32 year resident of Hillside, NJ. Retiree of Newark Public School System and U.S. Postal Service where he worked for over 30 years in the N.Y. International & Bulk Mail Center, Jersey City. Adjunct Professor at Essex County College, Middlesex County College and Fairleigh Dickenson University. Veteran of the US Navy, Member of the National Council of Teachers in Mathematics and Member of the National Council of Teachers in English. Faithful Member of Christ the King Church in Hillside for more than 30 years.

A graduate of Central High School, Newark – Bloomfield College (BA Psychology & Biology), Jersey City State University (BA Education, MA Education).

Loving husband of Louise (nee Haynes-Webb) Ballard, Father of Michael M. (Tracy) Ballard and Rev. Anthony L. (Lavett) Ballard Sr. Son of Bertha Taylor Thomas and Stanley H. Smith(Dorothy). Brother of Gilbert(Demetrix), Dexter (Sheila), Bruce, Jana Perry (Deighton) and Linda. Grandfather of Rashad, Michael, Tiffany, Lamanda, Keenan, Anthony II and Jeremiah. Great-grandfather of Darrel and Taki.

Son in law of Mary Sayers and Naomi Webb. Brother in law of Carolyn Gee Ballard. Nephew of Jeanette M. Powell.

Predeceased by his stepfathers William T. Ballard & Milton Thomas, step mother Willie Mae Smith, brothers Bryant J. and William Ballard.

Visitation at Phillips Metropolitan C.M.E. Church, 27 Morris Avenue, Newark, NJ on Thursday 5:00 to 9:00pm, with a Service of Celebration at 7:30pm. Funeral Mass at Christ the King Church, 411 Rutgers Avenue, Hillside, NJ on Friday at 10:30 AM. Interment at Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth.
