The Reverend Johnnie Mangus Hall, Sr. departed this earth for eternity on Wednesday, November 16, 2005.
Johnnie was born on February 12, 1919 to the late Pearl (nee Humphrey) and Charlie Beck Hall in Damascus, Early County, Georgia.
Johnnie was married to Vestella Staley on September 19, 1938. They moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1939. Johnnie worked for E.I. DuPont De NeMours for 35 years. He began his pastoral service in the CME church in 1943 and then later joined the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Rev. Hall served as pastor of St. James in Matawan, Peoples in Carteret, Harris Temple in Camden, St. Mark in Park Ridge, New St. Mark in Westwood and Associate at Clinton Memorial in Newark.
He also served in the United States Navy during World War II. Brother Hall was Grand Prelate for the Benevolent Protective Order of Reindeer Inc. and a member of the James H. Fultz, Sr. Lodge #47.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Vestella (Bessie), 4 daughters, Pearl (Earl) Haley, Elizabeth (Calvin) Ledford, Beverley Barnett, and Debi Hall-Dean; 3 sons Roland (Betty) Cassey, Johnnie Mangus Hall, Jr. and Charlie Hall; 19 loving grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Laura Cradit of Albany, GA and one sister-in-law, Sarah Parker of Newark, NJ, as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and confidants.
Visitation was held on Monday, November 21, 2005 from 5 to 8 PM at Clinton Memorial AME Zion Church, 151 Broadway Newark, New Jersey. Funeral Service was held at 10AM on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at the church. Interment will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Iselin, New Jersey. |
