Gregory Dockery died on Jan 25, at Water's Edge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 53.

Mr. Dockery was born in Trenton, New Jersey, on Jan. 31, 1961 to Lucinda Dockery and James Dockery Sr. Mr. Dockery spent the majority of his life in Trenton and was well-known throughout the Trenton community, in particular the Miller Homes and East Trenton vicinity. He was affectionately known as "Shaheed" or "Fred" by community members and friends.

He received his formal education in the Trenton public schools and supplemental training programs. He was a former employee of the Saxony Manufacturing Company before health problems arose.

Mr. Dockery had a proclivity for reggae music; Bob Marley was his favorite musician. He was an avid card player and a natural comedian.

He is survived by his mother, Lucinda Dockery of Trenton; his only son, journalist Shaheed M. Morris of Brookings, S.D.; two brothers, Larry Dockery and Ricky Dockery both of Trenton; three sisters, Mariann Blackshear, Barbara Dockery, and Sharon Dockery-Funches (Charles) of Trenton; a half-sister, Beverly Howlett of New Haven, C.T.; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and his Miller Homes' family and special family friends: Anthony Robinson, Lateef Johnson, Aisha Wimbush, Gregory Dillard, Vicky Ross, Eric Pollard, Sharon Harry and Sam Miller, all of Trenton.

Mr. Dockery was predeceased by his father, James Dockery Sr.; two older siblings, Dorothy Dockery and James Dockery Jr; and a brother-in-law, James Blackshear.

The Morris and Dockery families extend a special thanks to New Jersey Hospice and the rehabilitation staff, the nurses and aides at Water's Edge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral Service will be held 11AM on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, Trenton Deliverance Center, 1100 S. Clinton Avenue, Trenton. Interment Colonial Memorial Park, Hamilton. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9 - 11AM at the church. Rev. Victor Hudson, pastor of The Room Church, presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. Services entrusted to Ledford Funeral Home, 929 S. Clinton Avenue, Trenton.
